The campaign of Max Payne 3 is very fast and fluent as it jumps from gameplay to cutscene. As the story of Max trying to save a family that is very rich with Passos who is another body guard with Max, it takes you back to how they met and gives a great back story which is done very well. The story is 10 - 12 hours long and is great most of the way through. There is quite a few glitches in the game which should have been found as it is a liner game, unlike Rockstar's usual open world games like Red Dead Redemption and GTA where you would expect to come across glitches. Some of the glitches I came across were, when taking pain killers, I would fall through the ground and not be able to proceed or restart at a checkpoint. Another was when I was on the yacht, I bullet dodged, fell off the yacht and could not see Max as the camera was somewhere else. Overall the story was good and kept to a fast pace as you would expect, but the glitches did get annoying as near the end of the game it gets a lot harder.

The gameplay is good about 90% of the time as there are some area's where you need to do a lot of trial and error and no saves when you want to, just like on the PC. The trial and error come from about half way through the game till the end at different points as you will be shooting people in front with people coming from the sides, top and behind you and if you don't know where they are, then you will die till you find the pattern. Also the game can get repetitive as there is a point where you will be in a room, kill 20 enemies, go to the next room, kill another 20 enemies and so on. They do however try to mix it up by putting in slow-mo dives through windows, off boats and getting pulled up by chains while killing enemies mixing up the gameplay quite a bit. The controls are great however as you can go where you want and they act very responsive to every action you request. The camera never leaves you and is always where you need it to be but when you are in cover, it can shoot the bullets to the wrong side for some strange reason. When in cover I do think it would help if you could perform cover to cover to help in some of the harder parts of the story.

Reply value is quite extensive especially if you like to collect trophies or achievements. The Ney York minute mode, where you have to complete the missions in a time limit, allows you to collect medals for instance. During cutscene's, the time stops and slows down in bullet time and if you get headshots, then time is added to the limit. Once you do the New York Minute mode you unlock Hardcore mode and if you die you have to restart from the beginning. There is also the option to collect all the grinds, a sort of mini in game task you can do similar getting head shots and collecting golden gun pieces and clues. When you find all the parts for the gun you unlock it for single player and can use it in multiplayer making you look badass. These clues give more back story and make the story a lot more interesting so they are worth looking for.

Multiplayer player adds another 50+ hours or so with many modes such as Team Deathmatch and Gang Wars. The Gang wars are small stories that have different rounds and are great to play with friends if in a crew and trying to move up the leader boards. Crews are a group you can create that are like in game gangs that allow you to start rivalries with other crews and battle to be the best. To unlock attachments for guns you have to play with that gun and level it up separately from your main level, all the way up to 50, and then go into legendary which unlocks more playable characters. In multiplayer it's easy to find games and it has never lagged in any of the games I have played. Some of the maps can be quite small and you can die very easily when your team moves to the other side of the map as the other team will spawn next to you and kill you or you will get span kill a lot as some of the maps are just too small.

Max Payne 3 has a great story as you would expect from Rockstar but the glitches and the constant trial and error does get very annoying and can make it very frustrating. The multiplayer does add a lot to the game and is great fun for a couple hours a day, but with friends it's much more enjoyable in crews. Overall I would give Max Payne 3 4 out of 5
